Mr. Chinoy established Pakistan’s industrial foundation across multiple sectors through his pioneering ventures: Pak Chemicals Limited in heavy chemicals, Pakistan Cables Limited in electrical cables, and International Industries Limited in steel pipes manufacturing. His commercial interests also extended to trading, electrical contracting, and distribution, representing major European and international companies throughout South Asia.
A passionate advocate for education and professional development, he played a pivotal role in establishing the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi and served as Founding President of the Management Association of Pakistan (MAP). As a prominent member of the Ismaili community, he was honored with the title of Vazir and held numerous leadership positions including Trustee of Aga Khan University Hospital Foundation, Director and Trustee of Aga Khan Central Education Board and Health Services, and Founder Chairman of the Aga Khan Conciliation and Arbitration Board for Pakistan.
In 1968, Mr. Chinoy was appointed Honorary Consul General of Greece, serving with exceptional honor and dignity. His distinguished service was recognized in 1989 when he received the “Order of the Phoenix of Greece” – one of the highest honors bestowed by the Greek Government. He also served as President of Sind Club (1973-1975), President of Rotary Club (1968-1969), and Steward of the Karachi and Lahore Race Clubs.
An avid equestrian enthusiast, he successfully owned and bred numerous champion racehorses, including winners of Pakistan’s most prestigious racing events. Throughout his life, Mr. Chinoy served as the beloved patriarch of the globally dispersed Chinoy family, authoring “The Chinoys” as a testament to his dedication to preserving family heritage.
Mr. Amir S. Chinoy passed away peacefully on January 22, 1998 (23rd Ramazan 1418 A.H.), after a brief illness. He is survived by his devoted wife Almas, two sons, two daughters, and thirteen grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy of industrial innovation, community service, and family unity that continues to inspire generations.
